The history of the Comlag 88 set association of today is recounted quite accurately by the one with the vision who happens to be the 1st and immediate past President. Happy reading.
It all began, Saturday 13th December 2008, the 20th anniversary of C88 “Class of Eagles’’, it was an evening of pure and great nostalgia brought about during our first reunion after leaving school, meeting with mates and chatting about our formative and impressionable years.
The memories of living in the boarding house with mates for 5 years sharing dormitories, our adventures and encounters with various school teachers (RSM), the food raids in the dinner hall, the late night bus-stopping with crushes, and the weekly jogging to Ipaja bridge, and the “Omi obo” experience.
Remembering as far back as our first day at school September 1983 when we were all dropped off by our parents to Command Secondary School, Ipaja to July 1988 when we all graduated. The military drills and training, and how we had been moulded in the manner and fashion of the military lifestyle, and various calls and commands “last man’’, “double up’’.
The school motto “Discipline and Knowledge” we could not help but reminiscence our past it was as if we were reliving those school days as some of us had been separated for years while attending various universities.
Some of us attended the same universities and other had lefts the shores of the country and some mates unfortunately had passed on and we were never to see them again, but their memories lives forever in our hearts.
After the meeting, seeing the euphoria and bubbling the reconnection brought, we felt it should not end there and we remain in contact, mingle and socialise.
With the contacts from the party, the first meeting group, BBM was created. The group later became the foundation of the gathering of the “Class of Eagles’’. As the number of participants increased, the BBM was limiting, and we had to move to the WhatsApp chat group.
The WhatsApp group currently in use was created on the 3rd February 2016 and since incorporating the Association, has come a long way generating other chat groups: C88 Business and Networking, C88 Investment, C88 Owanbe, C88 Religious and C88 babes creating a vibrant group of people with different backgrounds and interests bringing so much to the forum, dedicated leadership and a pot pourri of diverse, intellectual thoughts and opinions.
The journey so far has been one of excitement, unbridled love and oneness, commitment and one of brotherhood. No one person could have achieved all these without the help and support of all. This brings to fore the slogan of our great alma mater “Together we shall win”.
